Rarely get used - wait a second Updated 2020
Updated - 2020:So I gave my first set away to a friend and her children. Simply said, they intimidated me. The pencils, not my friends. I have absolutely NO experience with watercolors and brushes. I ended getting the same set from my sister this Christmas (2019). The patterned image (Zenescope) is 100% water color. While I truly suck with brushes and the paper is too thin, I enjoyed myself and that's the whole point. I'm thinking these will be used primarily in backgrounds. Well, at least until I'm willing to embarrass myself again. Again, isn't that the point :-)They really laid down smooth. I didn't try to use a blender, and everything was brushed. I laid down a dark accent, then put the lighter color over the top. The leaves have the most colors, where I used Dark, Shamrock and Emerald Green. The greens really seemed to "pop" when hit with the brush. I wish there were more colors, but I think it's a pretty balanced set. You can do pretty much anything with it. It already has me thinking of other larger sets of 72 or 120.2019: I saw the "shimmering effect" line in the description and they next hing I know they were delivered. I've tried laying them down and then brushing and I have dipped the pencil in water. I prefer the dipped look. The shorts and shirts are the only water colored portions.Doubt I would repurchase simply because of the limited color selection. But my nieces and I will use and enjoy them until the last bitter nub has been sharpened for the last time.

The pencils are very durable and do not easily break. The pencil itself glides easily on paper. It was fun to play around with different values of color using more or less water. I love the little metal canister these pencils came with so they can easily transport everywhere with you. I would definitely recommend Prismacolor watercolor pencils!

I am a huge fan of the Prismacolor Premier soft core colored pencils, lettering pens, and Magic Rub erasers, as they are very high quality, so I thought it would be fun to try the watercolor pencils. And, of course, they did not disappoint. They are very pleasant to use. I like that the barrels are natural wood color, so that they are easily distinguishable from my soft-core pencils, and the pigment colors are gorgeous. The pencils come pre-sharpened in a handy tin.

I really like the way they lay down the color on the paper - I don't have to press hard to get good color, and coloring over the same spot multiple times deepens the hue. I tried a few different methods with these pencils, to see how they hold up to my hobbies. They are easy to use wet or dry. I tried several scenarios - dry paper with dry pencil, wet paper with dry pencil, wet paper with wet pencil, dry paper with wet pencil. They all worked well and have different effects. I found using a good paintbrush helps also. All in all, it's a great set with the premium quality I've come to expect from Prismacolor products. If you're looking for a set of great watercolor pencils, look no further - these are the ones.

I am happy with this purchase. I had a different cheaper quality set before and decided to try these as an upgrade. I can tell a difference between these and my cheap ones. They are smoother and blend easier than my previous set. I do find that temperature does play a part with both sets of my watercolor pencils. If I am outside and it is hot out they work better and go on smoother. If it is cold out they still do a great job of blending I just find that there is a slight difference between a hot day and a cold. I enjoy the color range and am glad I got the 36 set instead of a smaller one. ( I like lots of color options) I am not an experienced artist but a moderate crafter that likes to make cards. One of the things I like to do is take them on the plane with me. As they are are not liquid I have found I can travel with them without issue (so far). I bring an couple of waterbrushes (empty and filled on the plane) and paper towels with me which eliminates the need for a cup of water. I have pre-stamped images on watercolor paper that are cut to small travel sizes and I find I can watercolor. As space is limited I don't usually take the whole set or only pull out the colors I need from my travel bag as all you have is the lap tray. Be warned the lighting is bad but for simple images it works fine for me.

Of the several brands of colored pencils I have tried the Prismacolor pencils put down the best smooth creamy layer of color. That is perfect for coloring images made with rubber stamps I use to make greeting cards; the stamped images are beautiful when colored in. Some colored pencils have a harder color core that makes a stronger point when sharpened but they make a streaky layer of color on the paper and leave grooves in the paper. The harder pencils also tend to leave a cloudy surface on the color if you can get enough of the color to stick to the paper. These pencils are soft enough to not scratch the paper, quickly wear down into a smoother point so the colors can be blended more easily, and are true to the color when finished. All the Prismacolor products have matching color numbers so a watercolor pencil that is a certain number will be the same color as a regular colored pencil, or a marker with that same color number. This is great for using a watercolor pencil to make a color wash background, then a colored pencil or marker to highlight a color in the image.

These watercolor pencils are Well designed being able to use a paintbrush over it, or dipping the tip and water, to make it more acrylic, looking or darker. Got for someone who likes to color and draw also tried them out myself.. depending on how much work you do with them they could go fast. Overall worth it.

Comes in a nice metal tin, with plastic trays to hold the already sharpened pencils. The size of the 36 pack is nice and covers quite a spectrum of colors. Plus, you can mix the colors pretty easy for whatever other colors you need.

I made a swatch chart for myself. The colors are very vivid and smooth (with the exception of indigo blue). I have several brands of watercolor pencils, and these are my favorite selection of colors. The colors are Black, Cool Grey 50%, french grey 20%, white, mulberry, lilac, violet, violet blue, non-photo blue, true blue, peacock blue, ultramarine blue, copenhagen, indigo blue, dark green, olive green, grass green, parrot green, true green, spring green, canary yellow, sunburst yellow, goldenrod, spanish orange, orange, poppy red, crimson red, carmine red, pink, blush pink, light peach, cream, terra cotta, sienna brown, dark umber, and dark brown.

My only issue with these pencils are the wood labels. Since all the wood sticks are the same, its hard to tell which is which from first glance, and you have to look at the point or the label.

5.0 out of 5 stars They are definitely better quality than any other I have tried
Reviewed in Canada on October 9, 2017
They are definitely better quality than any other I have tried. I have only used these pencils on mixed media paper, and not proper watercolour paper. I do think these are really good, but maybe could be a little better at blending. You have to be really careful with these pencils as they are quite hard, so pressing down too much can leave marks where you may want smoothness. I feel like they could be just a little more soft and easier to blend, they would be perfect. Although again, if I was using proper watercolour paper I may have had a better time.

I think that the set has a reasonable selection of colours, definitely enough to work with. I would say that in the future it would be nice for them to come out with a larger set with more colour selection, but this is pretty decent.

The vibrancy of the colours is very good, and definitely the high quality you would expect from prismacolor. The pencils are very durable, and easily sharpened and easy to use.I think regardless of the cons I mentioned, these pencils still produce excellent work. I would recommend a cheaper set for beginners, this one is pretty expensive. Make sure you like the medium before buying this set, But if you're experienced and are looking to work more seriously, these are definitely a good choice.

Overall I'm pretty happy with them and would recommend the set.
