Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You run a SQL Server Backup job for database files that are stored directly in Azure Storage.

A network failure occurs.
In this scenario, the backup fails and generates error 3203.

The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server 2014:
