Rock Flock Studios is proud to present "Project Omen", a redesign of the ultimate ability of Omen from 'Valorant'. Brief from the studio 'People Can Fly'.

Omen is a 'Control' character; able to harness his abilities to control the battle and enemy perception. Our brief expanded a little bit, so we ended up designing and making 2 abilities, each similar but with a substantial difference in gameplay.

Omen Ultimate Ability "Hall of shadows"

Ability 1: PRIME your shadows and portal. FIRE to raise illusionary walls and enter through the portal. While hiding inside the shadow wall, Omen can survey the site through his wall. When an enemy shoots a wall Omen is not inside, the enemy is inflicted with Nearsighted and Stun. Exit after 45s or exit at will. 


Ability 2: PRIME your shadows. FIRE to raise illusionary walls and enter them. While hiding inside, Omen can teleport between them or exit the walls. When an enemy shoots a wall Omen is not inside, the enemy is inflicted with Nearsighted and Stun. Exit after 45s or exit at will. 


Using the ability

The ability is reminiscent of ultimate ability from 'Valorant'. It takes 7 kills to charge and use it. 

  1.  Press the [Use Ability] button once to CUE the ability. This will display wall projections. 
  2.  Press the [Use Ability] button again to ACTIVATE the ability. This will choose 4 walls. 
  3.  If inside the walls pressing, [Use Ability] again will exit the wall and END the ability.


Controls - Keyboard / Controller 

Basics: 

  • Movement -> WASD keys / Left Joystick 
  • Sprint -> Left Shift / Left Joystick Pressed 
  • Walk-> Left Ctrl / Joystick Right Button 
  • Jump -> Space key / Gamepad Down Button 
  • Camera -> Mouse / Right Joystick 
  • Shoot -> Left Mouse Button / Right Trigger 
  • Reload -> R Key / Gamepad Left Button 

Ability: 

  • Use Ability -> E key / Gamepad Up Button 
  • Change to ability 1 - 1(!) Key / Left Bumper 
  • Change to ability 2 - 2(“) Key / Right Bumper 
  • Switch Wall - LMB/RMB , Right Trigger/Left Trigger 

AI: 

  • Spawn Hostile AI – T Key, Gamepad D-Pad Up 



Enemies

There are 3 main enemy types that exist in the level

  1. Non-hostile enemies are easy charging of your ability. 
  2. Hostile enemies are for you to test the enemy behaviour on your ability 
  3. Non-hostile showcase enemy is to demonstrate how your ability looks and acts like from the outside perspective. Kill the enemy to make it try and use the ability again and again. 


In this project we strive to have a test level where you may test your ability against enemies and look at enemies using the ability.  It is an open level where there is NO OBJECTIVE other than to try and have fun and for 'Valorant' players, think about how this would be used in the competitive game scenario.
