Hello insiders, today we’re releasing build 80.0.361.5 to the Dev channel! This is the final build for major version 80, which means it’s also our next Beta channel candidate. This is also the final Dev channel update for the year; we don’t expect to publish anything more until January. However, we couldn’t leave you without some holiday treats, so here are all of the feature rollouts that have been recently completed for the Canary and Dev channels.
First, we’ve officially opened up the new Edge Extension Store for submissions! You can read more about the process for submitting to the store in this blog post: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/12/16/get-started-extensions-addons-microsoft-edge-chromium.
Next, for the web developers, we’ve published an example application on our GitHub page that serves as a comprehensive API demonstration of our new WebView2 control. You can read more about how to use it in this blog post: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/12/11/webview2-interactive-api-sample.
For our ARM enthusiasts, we’re bringing our native ARM64 builds to the Dev channel today! These builds have been in Canary for the last few weeks, and we’ve ironed out most of the major issues during that time. There’s still one known issue though: certain DRM video on some websites doesn’t play properly.
If you didn’t see it last week, we made a short post here about some of our work on the Mac touch bar: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Articles/Try-the-revamped-Touch-Bar-experience-on-Microsoft-E....
Finally, we’ve got three features to look for in upcoming builds.
Before we get on with the rest of the features and additions that are worth mentioning this week, you should know that favorites sync is still disabled for the majority of users. This includes brand new machines you install Edge on, so if you’re setting up Edge for the first time and want access to your favorites, you’ll need to manually export your favorites to a file on a different machine and import them on the new one. We’re also working on a deduplication mechanism once favorites sync is re-enabled, which should prevent new duplicates from coming in as well as remove duplicates for users who have already had their favorites duplicated.
Added features:
Improved reliability:
Changed behavior:
Known issues:
Thank you for a great 2019 and for all of your help building both this community and the new Edge. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Hi @josh_bodner
Thanks for the update, I had a question about the stable channel version.
is it going to be version 79? because Google chrome stable Ver 79 was released few days ago and if Microsoft release their first Ver 79 in January 15 that will mean that Microsoft Edge browser will always stay behind Google chrome in terms of features, development and everything (about 1 month behind). is that correct?
I really hope Microsoft aim for Ver 80 to be the first stable release version...

@HotCakeX yes, we're planning on our first Stable being 79 since, when we officially announced the GA date, we called Beta 79 our release candidate. Don't worry about the timing though, we just didn't want to push it out and then leave it unattended over the holidays!

When will Video automatically opening on websites be able to be "BLOCKED"again. We had it some time ago, in Settings "Media Autoplay"but the last couple of issues of Edge have only allowed for Ällow"or "Limit:, blocking has dissipated off the menu. @josh_bodner

So 2 more weeks without fix to sync issue. This is not good, IMHO. Anyway, Happy Holidays Edge team! @josh_bodner

But still Edge browser will be almost 1 version behind Chrome browser, always.
when 79 GA will be released in January 15, Google will release version 80 stable a couple of days after that.

Hi,
"Block" option is still available but hidden behind a flag, go to: edge://flags/
and then set this flag to enabled:
"Show block option in autoplay settings"

Great to hear another round of bugs have been squashed, let's hope you can fix the critical ones asap - I personally encounter the muted volume bug on an almost daily basis.
I personally find the yellow folders distracting, I found the white ones more in keep with the new Fluent Design Language. Can you make it an dropdown option in the Settings please?
With only 1 month until the official launch, it concerns me that parts of the browser still seem Beta and not yet RC. We all want Edge to be a Chrome killer and win back some market share from Google, but history shows us that 80% isn't enough, especially when it will be mass deployed via Windows Update.
As SysAdmin, there are a number of missing critical features that prevent me from rolling it out in my company on Jan 15th. I've had some constructive exchanges with the Edge Team and I really hope that you can include these features asap. I'm sure other IT Pros here have their own blocking points, which features are preventing you from deploying Edge?
For me, the critical ones are:
Is there any chance these will be included in the Jan 15 release?
Glad to hear the Edge Team all taking a well deserved break, you deserve it! Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year!

@josh_bodner Thank you for the YELLOW FOLDERS!!

That's true, but "classic" Edge has a nicer inline implementation of the Find feature, as well as other buttons missing in the current Dev release. Some are available in the Right-Click menu, but this is not obvious for most end-users.
Contents Bar
Rotate Counterclockwise button
Fullscreen button
Page View options
Read Aloud button

Anyone noticed this new "Show greeting" option in NTP? Sadly NTP is not customizable enough so weather information is useless to me (here in Milan it's 9°C not 28°C )

Thank you so much for that, now fixed. Have a great Christmas New Year.@HotCakeX

Yes obviously PDF experience needs so much work, it's super basic at the moment
Btw there is a hidden highlight option for PDFs that can be enabled using the flag:
Enable Text Highlights for PDF
in the latest canary I see Read Aloud is no longer gray but it's not working either when I try it on PDFs.

@josh_bodner Noooo! Yellow icons are too distracting and look like any other legacy/outdated browser UI. They do NOT match the dark theme I usually use in Edge and feel completely out of place.
These colorful yellow icons are one of the main reasons I never left the favorites bar on before. Only started using it in the new Edge because it's no so intrusive with the white outlined icons.
Please go back to the previous modern icons or at least give us an option in the settings to choose between modern and these horrible yellow icons. Then people can select the one they like more.
Thanks!

@Tom_Fox Agree! Yellow Icons are too distracting and just look like google chrome which looks horrible.
