Edge as default browser GPO error

In the current Stable build 81 when you install Edge and have the Edge Group Policy set to set Edge as the default browser, the error shown below shows up on the pc.

As far as i could find online this happens if Edge doesn't change the default browser using the correct API in Windows 10 and corrupts the settings.

As you might or might not have seen in the documentation its only for Windows 7

Note for Windows administrators: This policy only works for PCs running Windows 7. For later versions of Windows, you have to deploy a "default application associations" file that makes Microsoft Edge the handler for the https and http protocols (and, optionally, the ftp protocol and file formats such as .html, .htm, .pdf, .svg, .webp). See https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2094932 for more information.
