Emigrated to South Africa in 1969 with my family when I was 5 years old. Attended Milton Primary School and then Riverside High School matriculating in 1982. Got my first computer for Christmas '82 - a Spectrum, which was my introduction to computers and my decision to study this further. Off I went to the Vaal Triangle Technikon in Vanderbijlpark for the next 2 years leaving with a Diploma in Electronic Data Processing which included the Programming languages Cobol & Pascal. Started working for Anglo American Training Unit in my home town Vereeniging from 1985 - my first real job! My role was to review the current training material used to train Anglo staff and computerize as much as possible. Basic and Data Base IV were what I used. My contract ended in 1987 and political/economic changes it became difficult finding employment in my field. My next 3 jobs resulted in a move away from my preferred field into accounting and management but fortunately I was able to keep my nose in so to speak by improving company processes by using suitable products you could buy. I am still fascinated and amazed by all the technical advances and the speed of changes. It's great to be here
