A Decade of Innovation: Asygma's Role in Connecting Amazon Lockers Across Europe
Parcel Delivery with Amazon Lockers
In the pioneering days of Amazon's locker test program in Seattle, USA, the e-commerce giant eyed expansion into the UK and Europe. Enter Asygma (formerly London Web), chosen as the connectivity partner to bring these lockers online with a seamless solution.
CHALLENGE
The task was monumental. Thousands of lockers needed a secure connection to Amazon's Seattle headquarters. The challenge was compounded by the necessity for a static IP address for command and control, something unattainable through the then 3G connectivity. These lockers, destined for diverse locations including petrol stations, demanded 24/7 availability, stringent SLAs, and rapid response times. The operational complexity was further heightened by occasional computer malfunctions requiring physical reboots, potentially disrupting service.
CLIENT NEEDS
Amazon's requirements were stringent:
Exclusive locker access for authorized Amazon personnel.
Consistently available and resilient connectivity.
Efficient logistics for precise connectivity kit distribution.
Unprecedentedly high security standards, surpassing NIST and ISO27001 norms, entailing multiple complex security layers.
OUR SOLUTION
Asygma's approach was multifaceted:
Establishing a 24/7 global support team, complete with training.
Development of a service portal and KPI dashboard for secure, role-based access to operational reports, fleet visualization, and command issuance.
Introduction of 3G power-breakers to remotely reboot devices.
Tailored connectivity solutions for distribution centers and local 3G provider integration in France, Germany, and Spain.
Implementation of advanced monitoring systems with self-healing mechanisms, capable of preemptive issue detection and automated remediation.
Pioneering a method to determine the most effective network for each locker location, a necessity in the absence of multi-network SIM cards or e-SIM technology.
Developing a training and methodology system for regional engineers to efficiently manage and replace equipment, reducing downtime.
Strategic negotiations to secure cost-effective equipment pricing, outperforming Amazon's own estimates.
The rollout was methodical:
A pilot phase with 10 lockers in key London locations.
Expansion to 20 lockers with redesigned solutions.
Resolution of computer freezing and 3G connectivity issues through additional equipment and advanced logistics.
Continuous rapid development and improvements.
RESULTS
Asygma is proud to have been a pivotal part of Amazon's locker program's success across the UK and Europe. Our collaboration has been instrumental in supporting Amazon through numerous high-demand periods, including Black Fridays, Hanukkahs, and Christmases, significantly enhancing their delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction.
