Call for Proposals 83466759

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations in 120 countries. GIZ supports the German Government in the fields of international cooperation for sustainable development. Through its work, GIZ assists people and societies in shaping their own futures and improving living conditions.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is implementing the "Promoting Women Employment for the Green Transformation in Africa" (WE4D) project. The project aims to improve the employment and economic situation of women, particularly in companies and value chains that are driving the green transformation in Africa. The project will be implemented from January 2023 to December 2027.

The project pursues the German Development Cooperation integrated approach for promoting employment, which addresses both the demand and supply side of the labour market and strives to match supply and demand. WE4D further aims to contribute to the promotion of gender equality, as the project objective is specifically focused on improving the employment and economic situation of women. WE4D has thereby set high goals in terms of its contribution to gender equality. Therefore, in addition to WE4D's goal of promoting green transformation, the contribution to gender equality is central to the success of the project and must be considered throughout its implementation and in all areas of activity.

The WE4D programme started in 2023 and will conclude its first phase in 2027. The programme is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

WE4D operates by setting up partnership projects with private, civil society and public sector actors with the aim of employment promotion, gender equality and green transformation. Projects are in the area of skills development, enterprise development and value chain development. Currently WE4D South Africa is implementing 5 projects. Additional projects might be added to the portfolio during the contract period. Projects vary in size and scope ranging from smaller MSME support projects to larger skills development projects.
