About this event

Register your school now for the 8th Annual Youth Sustainability Summit!

This year’s summit is being held at the Ipswich City Council building in the Nicholas Street Precinct on Tuesday 10 September 2024. The full day summit is for students in grades 4, 5 & 6 in the Ipswich area. The event focuses on sparking sustainability projects at school and home.

The theme for this year’s summit is ‘Change Makers’. It will focus on the different ways we can lead change, from representative leadership, through to narrative and storytelling.

PROGRAM OUTLINE

  • Video showcase – sharing projects from across Ipswich schools.
  • The World’s Future – through an innovative game learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and how our local actions contribute to global change.
  • Changing the world through stories - hear from a local author about how we can use stories to inspire the community to think about the world in a different way.
  • Being a change maker in your community - learn how you can share your ideas with our local representatives.
  • Additional stalls and hands on activities – local organisations that can help you achieve your goals.

FAQs

Which students should come to the Summit?

Youth Sustainability Summit is intended for those students who are going above and beyond, volunteering their time to show leadership in the environment and sustainability space. We want to celebrate the efforts and achievements of these students and inspire them to keep up their amazing work. We also want to ensure a wide representation of schools from all across Ipswich, to foster collaboration and idea sharing among our student leaders. To be equitable, all schools will be limited to 20 tickets total from grades 4, 5 & 6. We encourage you to have at least 2 teachers/adult helpers on the day.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

On request, Council will arrange free buses to and from the event and schools. A requirement for the bus and any specific return times must be included with your order so that a transport route can be developed.

Schools may provide their own transport options for students. Arrival will need to be at 8:45am and parking requirements surrounding the venue will apply. Further information on recommended coach drop off locations will be provided closer to the date. Car parking infomation is available at https://www.nicholasst.com.au/visit/.

What do we need to bring to the event?

Food - Fruit and a light snack will be provided for morning tea and vegetarian sandwiches will be provided for lunch. Gluten free and vegan options will be available. If students or grown-ups need alternate options (or more food options) please encourage them to pack lunch.

Water bottle - students and teachers will need to supply their own water bottle for the day. This helps us to ensure the event is as waste-free as possible by reducing packaging. Water bottle re-filling will be available at the venue.

Photo Consent Form - Photos will be taken during the day so forms need to be completed before attending the Summit. Bring the forms with you on the day and they will be collected on arrival. Any student without a form or who has not given photo consent will be given an identifier (eg a coloured wristband) to ensure the photographer is aware.
