What a crazy weekend we just had. The last time someone made an attempt on the life of a US president was on March 30th, 1981, nearly two months before I was born. The Trump shooting is the first in my lifetime, and I’m no spring chicken.
I won’t dwell on that. Suffice to say, I hope this leads to more unity and less division and a more sober reflection on how we are all behaving as we bicker and argue over politics. After all, for the most part I think we all generally agree on most things, like treating one another with dignity and working hard and taking care of our loved ones and the importance of fun.
I’ve written about how games like Wordle prove that everybody is more alike than they are different. We all want the same things: Food, shelter, love, friendship, entertainment. Maybe we just need to focus more on those things and less on the other stuff, yeah?
In any case, let’s do this Wordle!

Wordle Analysis
Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.
I’m so sad about today’s Wordle! I should have had it in three, if only I’d listened to my heart instead of my brain!
My opening guess was obviously because this is what I’m hoping for as we enter the next few months of election madness. I know it’s a pipedream, but then I’m always the eternal optimist. It’s why I’m so frequently broken-hearted.
Alas, UNITY left me with 196 words, and PLANE only slashed that down to 20. It wasn’t until I got a bit more cynical and guessed MORON that I cut the number down to 1. The sad thing is, I was going to guess SWOON, largely because I thought of SPOON and then noticed the ‘P’ was taken. I chose MORON instead, like a moron, and didn’t get the Wordle till guess #4.
Competitive Wordle Score
I tied the Bot today and guessed in four which means I got a big fat zero. Oh well.
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word "swoon" has its origins in Middle English, where it was used in forms such as "swoune" and "swoun." These forms are derived from the Old English word "geswōgan," which means to become unconscious or to faint. The Old English term itself comes from the prefix "ge-" and "swōgan," which means to suffocate or choke.
The sense of "swoon" as we understand it today—to faint, especially from strong emotion—evolved over time. The word maintained its general meaning of losing consciousness but gradually took on a more romantic or emotional connotation, particularly in literature and poetry.
