In Cameroon, there are only 8 motor vehicles per 100 people, which means that the vehicles they have need to work for a lot of people and last a long time.
Often a motorcycle will carry three or four people at once.
Everywhere, people are fixing bikes: on the side of the road, in front of their homes, in dirt lots (the dirt in Cameroon, by the way, is red because the iron- and aluminum-rich clay develops in the rain and heat). Kyle took these photos of roadside repairs while riding through the country.
When repair really matters, people don’t hesitate to jump in and fix their stuff themselves. We think repair matters everywhere.
