FAQ

What is the difference between an availability-zone region and a Local Zone?

Regions comprise availability zones (AZs) deployed in OVHcloud datacentres, providing access to the full OVHcloud service catalogue.
Local Zones are deployed in shared datacentres and rely on essential cloud services (computing, storage, network). With extremely low latency, they enable you bring your services closer to your audience.
By combining regions with availability zones and Local Zones, you can create applications and services to match your needs.

Do the prices of services in Local Zone differ?

No, the prices for OVHcloud services are the same for each location. However, IP addresses need to be paid for and must be located in the country in which they are deployed. Public IP addresses are not automatically included with an instance.

Are public IP addresses localized?

Yes, public IP addresses are localized. You can have multiple IPv4 and IPv6 addresses on cloud services in a Local Zone.

How does connectivity work in a Local Zone?

Local Zones support IPv4 and IPv6 private and public networks. Due to the absence of a connection to our vRack private network, local private networks offer subset functionality.

Are Local Zones like edge computing?

Local Zones are the cornerstone of edge computing and are vital to the edge layer. Local nodes (edge nodes or edge servers) correspond to and enable cloud services to be brought closer to users and/or devices. The purpose is to set up a wide range of services, one of which involves collecting connected devices and centralising them on the cloud platform, specifically in regions where our datacentres are located.
