About us
”BEREC aims at fostering the independent, consistent and high-quality regulation of digital markets for the benefit of Europe and its citizens.” The Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) is a regulative authority composed of the Board of Regulators (BoR) - the heads or nominated high-level representatives of National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs), Working Groups (WGs) and the Contact Network (CN). BEREC is overseeing the day-to-day operation and voting on the adoption of initial proposals. While the WGs work on specific topics under the BEREC Work programme and develop initial proposals, the CN ensures the coordination of the proposals to be considered by the BoR for voting. BEREC contributes to the development and better functioning of the internal market for electronic communications networks and services. It does so by aiming to ensure a consistent application of the EU regulatory framework and by aiming to promote an effective internal market in the telecoms sector, in order to bring even greater benefits to consumers and businesses alike. Furthermore, BEREC assists the @EC and the NRAs in implementing the EU regulatory framework for electronic communications. It provides advice on request and on its own initiative to the European institutions and complements, at the European level, the regulatory tasks performed by the NRAs at the national level. ____________________________________________________________ The BEREC Office is an EU Agency supporting BEREC and, it represents its legal personality. The BEREC Office provides all necessary professional and administrative support for the work of BEREC, including financial, organisational and ICT services, and contributes to BEREC’s regulatory work for the benefit of people in Europe. ____________________________________________________________ Follow us! #BEREC and its constituent National Regulatory Authorities continue working on ensuring that the current regulatory framework benefits European consumers and businesses, promoting competition and investment and supporting the internal market. In the same time, the fast forward technological developments bring us to evaluate the existing framework ensuring that the past gains continue to ensure meeting the #connectivity targets, highlights BEREC Vice-Chair 2024 Robert Mourik (ComReg, Ireland) during his opening speech at the 5G Techritory in Riga, Latvia. Moreover, the BEREC Vice-Chair outlined the increased importance of #cybersecurity and resilient telecom networks due to current geopolitical situations.
