The Management Board of our EU Agency in Luxembourg, the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union, gathered yesterday for its 64th meeting in person for the first time after four years of online and hybrid meetings. This face-to-face engagement gave rise to dynamic exchanges and fostered deeper connections between the Centre’s staff, Director Ildikó Horváth, and the Board members. We look forward to putting these insights and collaborations to the service of strengthening Europe’s multilingual landscape. As the Chairman of the Board, I was delighted to be part of these discussions about groundbreaking language technologies that are empowering human capabilities, enhancing communication and inspiring innovation across diverse cultures and communities. 🔍 The Translation Centre is holding its twice-yearly Management Board meeting today. 💼 🤝 The meeting is a great opportunity for the Centre's Director and staff to share insights about the responsible use of AI in translation, and invite members to take part in interactive sessions to discover the Centre's approach to linguistic services in the digital age. The Management Board has a supervisory and governance role with general responsibility for budgetary and planning matters and the monitoring of the Agency’s performance. It is chaired by Christos Ellinides, Director-General for the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) at the European Commission. These meetings help steer and adjust our activities and operations to best meet our clients' needs. By collaborating together, we ensure that the Centre stays aligned with stakeholders' language service requirements and the changing environment around us. 🌍👥

📣 This afternoon, members of the Translation Centre’s Management Board had the opportunity to visit our offices to see the internal operations of our teams and witness first-hand our unique expertise in delivering linguistic solutions in support of multilingualism. 👥🌎 Members explored various areas of our business, including core services, the IATE widget, AI, business development strategies and linguistic services. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into how we prepare translation projects and what our translation lifecycle looks like end-to-end. 💡🌐 Participants gained a deeper understanding of our combination of technologies, skills and experience ahead of tomorrow’s twice-yearly Management Board meeting. At this Management Board, the Translation Centre will present its AI statement and inform and exchange with clients on our new and exciting range of services and developments. 📅 🤝

🎉 Happy International Plain Language Day! 🎉 What is plain language? It's writing in a way that is simple and clear enough to be understood quickly and easily by the intended audience. It produces readable texts that allow people to access, engage with and act on the information contained within. It is essential for when governments communicate with citizens. It is therefore a key part of the EU’s efforts to promote effective communication and access to information for all citizens. Not only does plain language benefit readers, but it also helps translators and writers. By using simple words, short sentences and paragraphs, and keeping the target audience in mind, writers become easier to understand and their messages become more successful. 💪📚 Companies and authorities all across Europe are now embracing the power of plain language. They're realising the benefits of producing information, documentation and forms that are clear, accessible to all and user-friendly. 🏢✉️ We also celebrate and support the efforts of EU agencies to communicate in plain language. The Translation Centre gives training on clear writing, and our in-house linguists are all native speakers who make sure that the final proofs are not only comprehensible, but also reader-friendly in all 24 official languages of the EU. 📢 The nights may be starting to draw in, but in Luxembourg, autumn means time for CinEast again! The annual Central and Eastern European film festival held mainly in Luxembourg City but also at other venues returns for its 17th edition between 3 and 20 October 2024. 🎞️ 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the accession of 10 new EU countries. This year's CinEast theme is 'United We Stand', underlining a sense of unity and solidarity in Europe and beyond. 🌍🤝 The 2004 enlargement helped to give rise to today's enlarged and ever more multicultural European Union. Luxembourg not only plays host to the festival but is also an embodiment of the values it stands for, being itself a centre of #multilingualism, a hub of different nationalities, languages and translation. 🌐🌈 The Translation Centre is proud to be part of the network of EU institutions and bodies striving to support multilingualism and cater to the needs of diverse audiences in the many European countries. 💬 A successful mission accomplished by the Translation Centre and for the Agencies Network! 🎉 We have had an exciting week at the EU Agencies Network Exhibition in the European Parliament in Brussels (1 to 3 October) and enjoyed countless meaningful conversations and exchanges with incredible stakeholders who were eager to learn about our role in supporting multilingualism and guaranteeing translation quality and innovation by keeping 'humans in the loop'. 🗣️💻 Multilingualism means that European citizens can access vital information in their own language and preserve the wonderful tapestry of languages in Europe. 🌍🤝 📢 In particular, it was a special privilege to be able to meet and exchange with our very own Luxembourgish MEPs Isabel Wiseler-Lima and Marc Angel, who stopped by to find out more about our focus on multilingualism. Multilingualism means that European citizens can access vital information in their own language and preserve the wonderful tapestry of languages in Europe. 🌍🤝 ❓ And what exactly is the EU Agencies Network? #EUAN Did you know that there are 51 members, and our role is to deliver tangible results for Europeans, such as approving medicines and supervising banking and financial systems? Alongside many other visitors, we had the opportunity to engage in various activities that highlighted the complexities of multilingual communication.
