WAVY Acoustic Panels from Mycelium & Recycled Drywall 🍄🟫 During my master’s degree in design, I often reflected on the role of designers in shaping the future. A few years ago, I began exploring bio-based materials, especially mycelium composites. An encounter with Matěj Róth and the REBORN DESIGN competition then opened up a new path for me to delve into mycelium’s potential in interior design. This exploration led to a collaboration with Skanska where I was tasked with finding a sustainable use for waste drywall from the demolition of the Mercury building. Inspired by biophilic design, I developed WAVY acoustic panels that resemble water waves, using computational design to bring this vision to life. The panels, created for Skanska’s new offices, repurpose ♻️ the drywall into a functional and eco-friendly feature. Currently, these panels are on display in Prague as part of a thoughtfully curated exhibition on mycelium materials. 📍NTK - Národní technická knihovna until the November 17th. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who made this project possible: Mykilio, Matěj Róth, Jakub Seifert & Skanska for selecting this project as the winner in the Reborn competition’s upcycled drywall category, and my professors at Fakulta architektury ČVUT v Praze: M.A. Henrieta Nezpěváková, Ph.D. a prof. Akad. arch. Jan Fišer who supported me throughout my diploma project. Looking forward to seeing materials like these in our daily lives! 🌱♻️🍄
