Remove hold status from a LinkedIn Ads account

Last updated: 2 weeks ago

If your LinkedIn Ads account has been put on hold, the status will show On hold and a red banner will appear at the top of Campaign Manager when you are logged into the ad account. Ads won’t run while an ad account is on hold but will resume once the hold is removed.

Your account can be placed on hold for billing-related reasons, if an ad account user’s LinkedIn account has been identified as potentially spam or fake, or if an Enterprise ad account has reached its end date or budget. You can check the ad account status for more information about why your account is on hold.

You'll find common reasons why your ad account is on hold and the troubleshooting options available in the following table.

Ad account status Common reasons your ad account is on hold Recommended steps to troubleshoot
On hold - No billing method Your credit card was declined by the financial institution.

Contact your financial institution to confirm and resolve the reason the credit card was declined. Transaction details are not available to LinkedIn, but common reasons include:

  • A spend limit was reached

  • Billing information on the ad account does not match bank records

  • Internal policies prevent the charge from being authorized

Once the issue is resolved, you can re-add your credit card in the billing center or try another credit card.

You have a new ad account and credit card information hasn’t been added yet. Add credit card information in the account billing center.
The billing admin on the ad account has changed.

Update credit card information in the account billing center.

When the billing admin is changed, the account is automatically put on hold until the credit card information is updated by the new billing admin.

The credit card associated with the account has expired. Update credit card information in the account billing center.
For Indian-issued credit cards, the transaction may need to be approved to be completed.

Log in to your bank’s platform to approve the charges.

For details on how to give consent to charge your payment method, please consult your bank as this process is not handled via LinkedIn.

Here's a tip

If you run into any issues with adding or updating the credit card, try clearing your cache and cookies and repeating the process.

Important to know

Updates to account billing information generate an authorization hold on your credit card for an amount less than $1 or the equivalent amount in your currency.
