Edit your public profile URL

Promote your public profile and allow others to easily identify you in search results by changing or customizing your public profile URL.

Customize your URL

You can create your public profile URL on LinkedIn. Having a custom public profile URL will help other members and recruiters identify your profile easily and connect with you. Custom public profile URLs are available on a first come, first serve basis. You can only have one custom public profile URL at a time.

To create or edit your custom public profile URL:

  1. Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.

  2. Click View Profile.

  3. On your profile page, click the   Edit icon next to Public profile & URL on the right pane.

  4. Under Edit your custom URL on the right pane, click the Edit icon next to your public profile URL.

  5. Type or edit the last part of your new custom public profile URL in the text box.

  6. Click Save.

To view assigned URL and unlink prior custom URLs that might be linked to you:

  1. Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.

  2. Click View Profile.

  3. On your profile page, click the   Edit icon next to Public profile & URL on the right pane.

  4. Under Edit your custom URL on the right pane, you can:

    • See prior custom URLs that might be linked to you: Click See prior custom URLs that might be linked to you. You’ll see a list of custom public profile URLs that might have been previously linked to your profile (if any).
    • Unlink prior custom URLs that might be linked to you: Click unlink next to the custom public profile URL you want to unlink.
    • View your assigned URL: Your assigned public profile URL will be displayed under Assigned URL cannot be changed.

Notes:

  • Your custom URL can be 3-100 characters long and should not contain spaces, symbols, special characters, or the word LinkedIn.

  • We recommend using a variation of your name and/or your professional brand since you'll share this public profile URL with people, so they can find your LinkedIn profile. Some job applications may also ask you for your LinkedIn public profile URL.

  • The customizable part of the URL is case insensitive, which means using JohnSmith, johnsmith, or johnSmith will all point to the same profile.

  • If the custom public profile URL you want isn't available, please select a different one. We can't make custom public profile URLs available to members upon request.

  • You can change your custom public profile URL up to five times within six months. Once you have changed your custom public profile URL for the fifth time, you won't be able to change it for another six months. Changing your custom public profile URL several times may make it hard for people to find you.

  • You should be able to revert to your old URL immediately after changing. If you’re unable to, please contact us.

  • If you change your custom public profile URL, the previous URL is still linked to you for six months unless you unlink it. Other members won’t be able to claim during this period.

  • If you unlink a custom public profile URL, it won't be visible to other members for seven days, after which they can claim it.

  • If you navigate to a previously claimed custom public profile URL, you may see a page that reads Profile Not Found.

  • Additional language profiles have the same public profile URL, but LinkedIn will add a language field at the end. For example, "fr" would be added at the end of the URL for a member's French profile.

  • Once an account is closed, the custom public profile URL will be available after 180 days from the date of the close.

  • A public profile URL is automatically assigned when you create your LinkedIn profile. This URL can be changed only if you update your name.
