Recent Changes to LinkedIn Live and Events

Last updated: 2 years ago

At LinkedIn, we're always working to elevate our member experience. We constantly evaluate our portfolio to make sure that the solutions we offer meet the needs of our audience. With this in mind, we brought together parts of the LinkedIn Live and Events experiences to enhance your virtual events on LinkedIn.

  1. All new events created on LinkedIn are now fully public: Your event is now discoverable by search, and anyone, attendees and non-attendees, can view your content during and after the Event.

    Important Notes:

    • Events scheduled before this change: If you have a private event already created on LinkedIn, it will be unaffected. However, you may not be able to go Live to this private event, as we are removing the ability to go Live to attendees only. Consider looking into alternative streaming methods for your upcoming private events.
  2. For members and Pages with LinkedIn Live access, you can now choose LinkedIn Live as an Event format. To host your event using LinkedIn Live, you can select Live LinkedIn in the event format dropdown when creating an event. This live event will automatically show up in the streaming tool of your choice (preferred partners only, including Streamyard, Restream, Socialive, Vimeo, and Switcher). Similarly, when you schedule a LinkedIn Live event from one of our preferred partners, it will automatically show up on your LinkedIn Page or feed. This change combines the discovery benefits of LinkedIn Events with the viral reach and engagement of LinkedIn Live.

Timing: This change is now available to all members with LinkedIn Live access.

  3. For Pages with LinkedIn Live access, you can add a registration form to your Live Event. If you are hosting from your LinkedIn Page, you can easily add a registration form with up to 6 fields to your Live Event while creating it on LinkedIn. This gates your event and collects attendee registrations before, during, and after the event. You can download registration information at any time or sync it with a CRM platform of your choice using Zapier.

Timing: This change is now available to all Pages with LinkedIn Live access.

  4. Live Event will now behave like any LinkedIn Feed post. We are removing the dedicated Event feed to post event-related content (which was earlier visible to attendees only). When you create an event, an event post is created on the LinkedIn feed. You can leverage the comments section of the event post to communicate with attendees and LinkedIn members before, during, or after the event. Your event post will get the same reach and discovery benefits as any LinkedIn Feed post.

    Important Notes:

    • Timing: This change is now available to all Pages with LinkedIn Live access.
    • Notifications: As Events do not have dedicated feed, organizers can no longer send a notification by recommending posts to their attendees. However, you can always communicate with attendees who are your connections via LinkedIn messages and with attendees who are not your connections via InMail.
  5. Your Live Event content is visible to anyone on the LinkedIn feed and your profile or Page. The Live Event shows as a post on your Page's feed or in the posts section of your profile. For LinkedIn Pages, it can also be found under the Events and Videos tabs. Anyone can watch the replay of your Live Event, even if there’s a registration form. A member needs to fill the registration form before they can watch the replay. This way, you can continue to collect views, engagement, and leads on the content even after the event has ended.

Timing: This change is now available to all members with LinkedIn Live access.
