Three Takeaways from a Conversation on #AI Last week I had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion on the future of AI at the North Carolina Technology Association (NC TECH) State of Tech Exponential conference.  The discussion was moderated by Will Quick, with fellow panelists Sara Copic, Ph. D., Caryn Woodruff and Lawrence Freeman. The conversations touched on many of the points that the tech industry (and the broader business community) should be talking about around the threats and opportunities of AI, and the hour flew by. So, I wanted to highlight three points that I felt were particularly important. 1 – #Ethics matter – in ways you might not expect.  Yes, there is a lot of focus on creating AI that is accurate, as unbiased as possible, and based on LLMs that take copyright law into consideration.  But Sara raised the point AI is potentially a new type of independent agent… What does this mean for how we treat, leverage and put AI agents to work? 2 – AI has the potential to democratize #innovation faster and in greater volume than anything else in history.  Caryn touched on how the additional capabilities that AI brings to the table have the potential to catalyze innovation and start-ups in new ways.  The trick here is making sure that start-ups aren’t building something that can, itself, be replaced by AI. 3 – AI’s potential is incredible, but with that potential comes the need for guard rails.  Lawrence, who focuses on cyber security, talked about how the security threats from cloned actors and other AI agents is a real issue and needs to be addressed diligently.
