🤔 Did you know that Tableau supports Ctrl-Click and Shift-Click for most lists?   🤔 You DO use those keys in other Windows apps, right?   🔍 Check out the image.   1. If you have dragged Measure Values to Columns, you can mass remove big ranges of variables from the Measure Values Card with Shift-Click. ✔️Drag them off or: ✔️Use Right click or the dropdown arrow and Remove ✔️You could also mass-format this way   2. Select a Range of Dimensions and you can: ✔️Duplicate ✔️Hide ✔️Create a big combined field ✔️Convert to Measure and more   3. Couldn't comment on the below post, but my solution which I thought was obvious, and more flexible, used row number - SELECT salary FROM ( SELECT salary, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY salary DESC) as row_num FROM employees ) ranked_salaries WHERE row_num = 2; Interesting that you put the same problem into chat gpt and it volunteers the below comments as the first and second solutions.My solution was number 4, after a dense rank. Shows the growing value of AI and what we can all learn from it.

Goodbye black 👋 For years I've advocated using black for formatting Python code. I didn't always love the results, but it was consistent. No more arguments over how code should be formatted. What black produced is what got checked in. The black formatting check was always one of the first steps in my CI pipeline. Sorry black, but after all these years I'm moving on. Ruff, the rust based linter for Python, now supports formatting. I replaced flake8 with ruff as the linter in all my projects after a coworker suggested it. The performance improvement over flake8 was massive - at least one order of magnitude. Not only is black slower, it is another dependency to manage. Switching to ruff format reduces the number of tools I need to track. It also removed a whole section from my pyproject.toml files. Ruff format is (mostly) a drop in replacement. There are a few areas where the two disagree. I'm not fussed about running a one off reformat. I can do it when I update my CI steps in each project. 📣 Here's the data on how my 🐝 responded to the Total Eclipse of the Sun a month ago. This visualization was created as a birthday gift by my amazing mathmetician/scientist son-in-law Andrew Loeb. He visualized 35+ GB of 5 days of continuous audio buzzing data collected before, during, and after the eclipse. Each day’s "buzzing" is represented by a horizontal line from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm: the honey-colored line is the day of the eclipse. The gray vertical section is the actual eclipse period, and the yellow vertical stripe within it is the brief period of totality. The vertical axis represents the power of "buzzing" noise. Findings: On the day of the eclipse, the bees got quieter as it got darker - especially in the total darkness of totality. After totality, buzzing outpaced other days as the eclipse led to a backlog of bees left out foraging and unable to return until more sunlight was available. This data has been sent to NASA as part of one of the biggest concurrent audio citizen science experiments ever - the data will be used for research for years to come. ⚖️ Have you ever wanted to have mark sizes be consistent across worksheets.   ❌ But you're not snapping to those convenient 50% lines.   ❌ And you lack privileges to edit on server?   🔨 Well, this was covered briefly in Tableau Conference, and I made an example dashboard - showing sizing with a parameter.   🤔 But you say, "Hmm. I want consistent sizing but I want it by a measure across worksheets."   I have an example for that too. Link in comments.   Of course, you typically wouldn't display this parameter for the user to control, but who knows? Before settling on a final visualization, exploring the data and trying out many types of visualizations (not by-the-number) can uncover unexpected patterns and insights. This exploratory phase is a crucial part of the process. It's okay if you know you'll use a bar chart in the end- while you're exploring, see what you uncover with other types of charts on that same data set.
