- [Instructor] Like most other decision tree techniques, C5.0 involves pruning. Let's discuss the C5.0 pruning options by examining them in Modeler. Let's take a look inside to C5.0 modeling node. The first thing that we notice is that Modeler has a radio button for so-called expert settings and that's where we find these advanced pruning options. Let's pause for a moment and get some advice from Ross Quinlan himself from the somewhat official C5.0 tutorial on his own company's website, the developer of the technique. In that C5.0 tutorial, Ross Quinlan's own team states, "These are best regarded as advanced options "that should be used sparingly if at all." So keep that in mind but I do have some general advice on this and I will give you some notion of when it makes sense to adjust them.
