From the course: Nano Tips for Developing Magnetic Charisma with Shadé Zahrai

Creating first impressions

- People judge you based on two things, warmth and competence. The very first question we ask about someone when we first meet them is, can I trust you? Then we ask, can I rely on you? Do I respect you? Highly charismatic people have a specific blend of these two traits. According to psychologists at Harvard, it's more important to show warmth first then competence especially in business settings because we prefer to work with people that we can trust. Warmth is what builds connection and fosters collaboration. It's relatable so have open body language. Face people when you speak to them. Smile, show them that you're interested. Then, back it up with competence to show credibility through appropriate eye contact, confident posture and a confident handshake. These little things go a really long way.
