- One of the most distressing experiences related to triggers is how long they last. Most people aren't aware of their strength and capacity to literally turn the course of their day. That's because with triggers, there's a lot that's happening. As you've already learned, a trigger uses energy in both your mind and body to help you survive a moment of distress. This means that you will be working really hard to get yourself through a tough moment, so it makes sense that you feel the remnants of that upsurge minutes and even hours later. Think about this. Let's say you ran a marathon. A marathon is an experience where you need both mental and physical energy to get you through. A significant upsurge of mind-body connections needs to be put in place in order to get you to the finish line.
