- Although some triggers are brought up by events that happened in the recent past, let's go back in time to help illustrate just how persistent triggers can be. For some of us, trauma that happened long ago, like during moments in our childhood, can come back up later in life. Let's set up an example to help us flow through this concept. Let's say that Tanya's colleague, Lolita, was also having some emotional troubles at work. Tanya would often find Lolita crying at her desk following her team meetings. When Tanya asked about what was happening, Lolita responded by saying, " I'm wondering if my team thinks that I don't offer any good suggestions. Every time I present an idea, I'm second guessing if it's even any good." She felt that she wasn't contributing value to her team.
