- [Narrator] Open source intelligence tools can gather publicly available information during reconnaissance such as news stories, public records, and websites. In this segment, we'll discover how Maltego, Shodan, and other tools can help provide intel for a more targeted discovery. While mining data and gathering intelligence there are a number of different tools that can collect information by gathering artifacts, generally one result at a time. That type of tool is called Open-Source Intelligence Tool, or OSINT, which is consolidated from publicly available sources. We are all connected in many ways, as shown in this graphic. Most all objects on the network have descriptive data about data and includes information such as the location, file size, type, author, and keywords. This descriptive data is called metadata. To improve the effectiveness of data collection, analysis, and interpretation, most OSINT tools use metadata.…
