- Hi there, Darrell from Chill. Emotional intelligence grows from our ability to name and recognize emotions. Although there are many variants of these emotions, the four fundamental, or core emotions, are anger, fear, joy, and sadness. Emotional intelligence first requires the capacity to be present in the moment. So let's practice expanding your emotional intelligence by practicing being present. Take a deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth. (exhaling slowly) Again, in through the nose, exhale through the mouth like you're blowing out a candle. (exhaling slowly) One more beginning breath together in, and as you exhale, letting the eyes begin to close. So often we use the eyes and our visual field to hold our attention.
