- Sometimes we're actually not the best judges of our own strengths. We all have blind spots that relate to how we view ourselves. I have a dear friend, Dionie, who is an athletic coach. She is a girls lacrosse and field hockey coach. And recently, one of her players requested that she played for the varsity team instead of the JV team, and Dionie in her infinite wisdom, responded to this young woman with a really thoughtful email about why she thought the JV team was the right place for this young woman at this time. And she thanked her for advocating for herself, for asking to move up to a higher team, but she acknowledged that she had real thoughtful reasons behind having her play on the junior varsity team, around getting reps and building her skillset and building her confidence.
