- What drives you? What makes you want to get up in the morning? What makes you continue to show up to work each day? In one chapter of my career, I was driven by learning new skills because I value learning. In another, I was driven by creating a department from the ground up because I value strategic thinking, creativity and innovation. After my son was born, I valued my time over my ambition because I wanted to see my son grow up and learn. Knowing what's important to you and why it's important will help you make choices in your career and life. Your values act as a filter for these decisions and it's important to evaluate them regularly. My general rule is to take a look at your values any time there is a major life event.
