The NEW World Of Working With LinkedIn, Jay Shetty, and Mel Robbins Event RECAP #LinkedInForward

Is your head spinning from the rate of change from the last year? As we start to take a breath and regroup from 2020, it begs the question, what will this new world look like?

This week talent thought leaders weighed in and shared their insights on a variety of panels and talks all done VIRTUALLY in partnership with LinkedIn. Below are some key highlights and stats as we move into the new world of 2021.

Hiring trends: Candidates still want to work from home

In good news, LinkedIn’s Chief Economist says hiring rates have accelerated and will likely lead to a strong rate of hiring for the second half of the year. Also, the interest in remote work has increased.

LinkedIn has seen a 6x increase in jobs for remote work, 3x in searches for remote jobs, and almost 4x increase in applications for remote work. This means candidates are not only adjusting to working from home but are looking for it in their future roles moving forward.

Diversity and the "Skills Economy": Use skills hiring to increase diversity at your organization

LinkedIn also says that companies investing in D&I are 22% more likely to be seen as industry-leading and cognitive diversity boosts team innovation by 20%.

Diversity leadership roles have more than doubled in the last 5 years. To keep growing, the panel encouraged broadening the lens and hiring for capability not a person with a similar title in a similar industry. The economy is moving to a “skills economy” with 57% of LinkedIn jobs had more "skills" mentioned in the job description compared to education/certifications.

A skill doesn’t just mean a coding skill. Hire based on a growth mindset. Can they grow? Can they develop? Also, think about a buy and as well as built model. Bring in junior talent you can grow and invest in communities.

Employee morale: Zoom fatigue is real

Employees are burnt out from Zoom. They are feeling disconnected, lonely, and uneasy. Companies are finding ways to help support employees. “It’s not just team meetings and standups, we are finding 1:1 between manager and report to be really important,” says Unilever’s CHRO Leena Nair.

Companies are also making changes. 66% of L&D professionals globally are focused on rebuilding and reshaping their organizations this year. With all this change, it’s important to make sure to encourage employees to have zoom social hours, meditation time (Unilever banked 15k of employee meditation hours), and opportunities to unplug.
