My son is going off to college this fall! He’s nervous about finding a college job that will let him make money but is flexible enough for his class schedule. I can’t really provide guidance because my first job after high school was being a full-time Infantryman. What was your coolest job in college? Happy Monday, all! Question for the vets among us. What was the toughest lesson you had to learn when you started working in the civilian world?

Every once in a while I get asked my opinion on what the most transferable skill is that veterans bring with them into the corporate workforce. My answer is always resilience. Resilience is a hallmark of military training, fostering strength, adaptability, and determination in soldiers. These traits seamlessly translate to the corporate world, where resilience is key to navigating challenges, driving innovation, and achieving success. Soldiers learn to stay focused under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances, and persist in the face of adversity. In the corporate setting, these skills help teams to overcome setbacks, embrace change, and maintain a forward momentum. Today is National Hire a Veteran Day. I'm proud to be a part of HCA Healthcare, an organization that understands the long-term benefits that vets bring, as well as providing a support structure to those preparing or experiencing transition from the military. I am also proud to serve with the Veterans Corporate Council (VCC) as we assist organizations that either want to stand up a veteran employee resource group, or want to bring their company to the next level of veteran advocacy and support.
