LinkedIn: I'm breaking down the #resume that got me interviews at top companies coming from a non-target school & without any connections, Pt. 5. I'm on a mission to help an underdog land a job a day. This is for those, especially from non-traditional backgrounds who wish they found this info early on (wish I did!). Pt. 5 is about impact statements, which are highlighted in sky blue. As you can tell from my resume (use this template on ResumAI by Wonsulting for free: https://bit.ly/3P7VCP7), I did the following: 💡Added Impact statements before the number/percentages: This showcases if I improved, optimized, or made an impact in my role. 💡One exercise I would do is to identify key projects or tasks where I made a significant impact. Think about the end results of my work and how it benefited the company or team. 💡Translate your achievements into measurable results. Ensure your statements are clear, impactful, and tailored to the job you're applying for - a better example? Instead of saying "Managed inventory levels" say "Improved inventory management, reducing stockouts by % and increasing customer satisfaction by %." Yes, you can wait till you're fully confident about something on your #JobSearch. But in truth: Rarely are we certain about anything until it's happened. So, you may not know whether the company can pay your dream salary if you negotiate. Or the recruiter will get mad if you follow up. But if there's a potentially higher upside than the downsides, it is okay to risk actions. LinkedIn: The mistake many make when going for job interviews? Not preparing enough. Here are 5 common interview questions with tips on preparing for each one (So you land offers): 1) What is your biggest weakness? Avoid diving straight into a laundry list of weaknesses, especially those unrelated to the job. Instead, you can start with something like "I see weaknesses as opportunities, so here's a story about a challenge I faced before and how I tackled it. The challenge was...." Spin a tough question into an opportunity to highlight your strengths. 2) How are you different from other candidates? As a rule thumb, ensure you find out the top 5 strengths sought by the company before going for an interview. So, when this question comes, leverage it to showcase your top five strengths aligned with the job description. 3) What's your greatest strength? Again, identify the strengths emphasized in the job description, then provide examples of how you've demonstrated these qualities in previous positions. Importantly, put this in a way so genuine that the strengths are seen as your actual strengths, and your statements do not reek of a manipulative attempt to win the interviewers over. 4) Describe a time when you disagreed with your supervisor or peer and how you resolved it. Describe a moment when you had a difference of opinion with someone, especially a superior at work. Recall how you navigated the conversation and point out the steps you took to resolve it. Remember to stay factual and emphasize your communication strengths. And use CAR format: Context, Action, Result. 5) How do you handle mistakes? It is easy to provide surface-level answers to this kind of question. Avoid that by reflecting on this even before the interview. Be prepared to recount an instance where things didn't go as planned at work, how you managed it, and your key takeaways to prevent recurrence.
