🌧 As I was singing to the boys this morning (don't expect my mix tape anytime soon) about all of the rain washing away the itsy bitsy spider, I was reminded of how often action items can get lost in the Slack scroll.
😎 But then out came the sun and it shined down on Canvas and Workflows. You might be wondering how long I can keep this going... so am I 🤣
📝 Action item tracking is crucial for managing projects, so why not track them in Slack? Disclaimer: This is not me saying to use this instead of what you use today for full meeting notes or project management.
💡 Use Case: As a project manager, I need a place to track quick action items from meetings for my team to keep ourselves organized and have a static location to go to for reminders before our next meeting.
⬇ Using Sections in Canvas, and a quick scheduled workflow, you can create organization and reminders for your teams all in one place.

My cover was blown last week.
A few days ago, I went lightweight viral for showing how our platform turns your Slack community content into a marketing growth machine.
Our small community of 200 members won a Google Answer search rank, and large communities of 10K+ took notice.
I realized I am not a founder who can... "stealth." Too much James Bond and not enough Jason Bourne. So today, I'm handing in my Stealth badge to the local sheriff and updating my LinkedIn.
Hello Tightknit, the first community platform built for Slack 👋
Why Slack, you ask?
Well, Slack is not a community platform today. Even Slack’s community lead who runs a Slack community, will tell you it is not.
However, Slack is the most common community tool for B2B enterprises and professional associations. Thirty million people use it daily to build deeper connections with each other and the businesses they champion.
It's why we live by the community mantra and repeat it every day:
"Meet your members where they are."
For professionals looking to build community, Slack is second nature as a collaboration tool. It's just missing some essential features for community building—features that can be built. Features like:
📋 Forums 🌐 SEO 📅 Events 🏆 Gamification ⚪️ User Groups
Community managers should no longer choose between a community forum for growth and a conversational community for engagement. Tightknit gives you the tools to be the ally of both the marketing and customer support teams and build a tight-knit community that does not compromise.
Thank you to my cofounder Stephen Cook who has been there every step of the way, our avid customers, early adopters, and every Tightknit community member. Your belief in our mission makes us work harder every single day, and we do not take that for granted.
Be a part of our community! Give us a follow, share us in a Slack community where you are a member, or be bold and book a demo.

Following on from my post on Slack lists yesterday ... I have managed to build a #workflow to pull in changes from a Task made in Salesforce and update the appropriate #slacklist item. This is triggered manually (it might be possible to make this fully automated via a webhook though) in my demo. But with a simple Autolaunched Flow and a Slack Workflow, you can very easily pull changes from a Task in Salesforce and update the matching Slack List Item (assuming you have logged the Item Id against the Task).
Let me know what you think in the comments below. And if you haven't seen my previous video, you can do so via the comment with the URL below.

📑 Slack Lists are great for keeping track of things. The beauty of them is that you can combine them with [my favorite topic] Slack workflows. This is where the beauty really shines with all sorts of possibilities for automation.
However, there are a few things missing when it comes to automating things. What if I need to perform a calculation in my list? ➕ Maybe add or subtract some values for a total? ✖ Multiply items? These aren't possible natively...
👑 So, what am I to do? Create a new, custom workflow step, of course! I call it "Variable Arithmetic." This is a new step for Workflow Builder that takes your items from a List (or anywhere in your workflow) and performs whatever calculation on them you need. Take the result and add it to your List, all within a workflow! 💻 Slack Developers
⚡ The power of this comes in when adding rows to a List (or updating one) through Workflow Builder. Now we can add a step to a workflow and have it perform these calculations for us, then update the List. Bonus tip: You can use this anywhere else in your workflow, such as when sending a message, updating a canvas, or any of the other steps available.
🍔 Note: Sales data was made up for this example. No hamburgers were sold in making this post.

Slack Lists is all the rage this week, but the real news is Melissa Chan's team releasing Canvas APIs :mic-drop:
The ideas are endless. But here's what excites me about the future of Slack communities:
🪁 Automatic Canvas templates for user groups
📜 Public-facing Canvas pages (Get me that READ API, Melissa!)
📆 Self-refreshing Event calendars
Other ideas? The Tightknit backlog is listening 👂
