Women of Xbox UK Community Day 2022

This summer saw women and allies from across the Xbox UK organisation came together at our very own studio in Twycross for the first time ever for the Women of Xbox UK Community Day 2022! 

The Women of Xbox UK community is made up of women building games across Xbox Game Studios in the UK. Rare, together with Playground Games, Ninja Theory and central Xbox teams, brings together and provides support to its community through events, mentorship and representation. Their mission is also to inspire the next generation of women and girls to consider a fulfilling career in gaming, through outreach with educational institutions and programmes.

On a beautifully warm summer’s day, we invited members of the community and allies to connect, meet friends old and new and enjoy some delicious food and drink at our studio. Guests to Rare were treated to sunny walks and a tour, as well as meeting an office dog or two!

The community also saw a keynote talk by the truly inspirational and comedic guest speaker, Cally Beaton, a hugely successful media entrepreneur, podcaster, writer and performer. Her career has, among other things, seen her being the youngest and only female member of the ITV board and most recently doing a 10-year stint as Senior Vice President at US studio giant Viacom CBS – responsible for brands such as MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures. Safe to say, Cally had everyone in stitches as well as feeling thoroughly inspired!

Led by the Women of Xbox UK fellowship, this community were delighted to see so many wonderful women and allies come together for the first time, and it has reinforced their drive for more events in the future.
