What you need to open a bank account or other product with TSB

To open your account/product, we may need to verify your identity and address in branch. Please bring two official documents with you – one for proof of identity and one for proof of address. (We accept certain documents printed from your online account, e.g. utility bills for address verification, as long as one of the following has been used as identification: UK/Irish passport, UK full driving licence, HMRC tax notification (notice of coding or annual statement only and must be original document sent by post).

Unfortunately, we're not able to accept 1 document as proof of both your identity and address, e.g. photocard driving licence showing name and address.

When applying for an account online, we may be required to verify your identity. You can complete this on the TSB app in three simple steps.

Step 1

If you don’t already have the TSB Mobile Banking App, download from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store and select ‘ID check’ to confirm your identity. If you already have the TSB app, you’ll need to log-in and click in the top left corner, click in to settings and then select ‘ID Check’.

Step 2

Enter the application reference number that you will have been provided with.

Step 3

Take a picture of your ID document (driving licence, passport or an identity card) and a picture of yourself. We’ll use the pictures you submit to confirm your identity as quickly as we can. It can take up to three-working days. As soon as we’ve finished out checks we’ll contact you.

We use Experian to carry out our identity checks. To find out more about Experian Identity Evaluation please contact them directly.
