Guidelines for the Application of Environmental Indicators
2023 Edition
Abstract
The Guidelines for the Application of Environmental Indicators – Edition 2023 provide a key tool for environmental assessment in the UNECE region based on a suggested set of priority indicators to be produced at national level. The guidelines aim to a) better inform recent global policies (such as the 2030 Agenda, Paris Agreement and Sendai Framework for Disaster-risk Reduction), b) link them with statistical frameworks, such as the United Nations Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (FDES) and the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting – Central Framework (SEEA-CF) and c) to increase user-friendliness of the metadata. Appropriately chosen indicators based on sufficient time-series data can show key trends, help describe causes and effects of environmental conditions and make it possible to track progress towards the implementation of environmental policies in the UNECE region.
