This module enables educators to transform and improve their teaching with digital game-based learning using Minecraft Education. You'll learn what Minecraft Education is, how it differs from other versions of Minecraft, perform basic in-game actions, and discover how you could make conventional lessons more engaging and interactive with learning experiences.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this module, you'll be able to:

  • Recall your initial understanding of Minecraft and examine the mechanics and essence of the game.
  • Differentiate between Minecraft and Minecraft Education, focusing on the unique educational features of Minecraft Education.
  • Complete basic tasks within the Minecraft Education game, demonstrating skills by placing blocks and designing a simple piece of pixel art.
  • Explain what digital game-based learning is and how it can help students and teachers in the classroom using the example of Minecraft Education.
  • Judge the suitability of Minecraft Education resources and adapt a chosen lesson for use in your own classroom context.
  • Choose a regular lesson that you teach and find a corresponding Minecraft Education lesson and explain how you would transform this lesson using a game.
