    I purchased the Pioneer AVH-1300NEX to upgrade my Mi-Box. The head unit in there was still good, but at 8 years old, it did not have Apple CarPlay. You get the head unit, some connecting wires and cables, a few screws, and that's it. Some button functions have dual purposes such as turning off the unit or backlight. After I installed the unit and tried out all of the functions, I discovered it does not support CD Text, display album art on MP3 Data CDs or the Bluetooth connection. This seems a step backwards on a modern Multimedia unit. It will display album art on connections to an iPod, the phone, or USB connected devices. I even upgraded the firmware looking for a fix. You can move around some Icons to set 4 that us use the most to be on the menu bar. I purchased the remote control separately, and grounded the parking brake wire to watch DVDs. There are other Pioneer AVH-NEX units that support other things like Android Auto, SiriusXM, and built-in Navigation so shop around for what you want.     I was surprised at how well this worked with my wireless Apple dongle. There are no problems switching between the Apple Play and the normal menu. You just press the button and it switches right away. The picture is crisp, clear and has some nice background movement that you can adjust your needs. You can even download your own wallpaper through the USB. I am able to control the volume using the up and down button through the steering wheel along with advancing from one song to another. The CD player and DVD player work well, but keep in mind you can only use the DVD player while the car is in park.

    I love apple CarPlay!!!!! Great head unit. Don’t forget to get the ebrake bypass from amazon only $10. The radio functions great. I installed it into my 2006 forester without a problem. I have a touch screen unit in my 2016 frs and it’s soo much better than that unit. Thinking of buyjng another unit for my frs and maybe my 2002 civic si. I love it that much. I wish it had a built in mic on the face and maybe a face USB port so I wouldn’t have run the mic and usb but not a big deal. The one thing is that I lost my rear sub in my forester because it was powered by the factory head unit. Not the fault of the head unit. The head unit made my stock speakers sound great. Big improvement.

    I just installed this unit in my truck last night. If I end up with any updates I will make changes here.
    Pros: Great Receiver. Easy to use. Good Looking. Sound Quality is fantastic. Great features (display, video, CarPlay). DVD Quality is great.

    Cons: CarPlay - I was a little disappointed after learning CarPlay and the Video Bypass still does not allow YouTube or other Video apps to play. Learning I would have to buy another cable and plug to allow video from my phone is upsetting, but not enough to stop me from loving the unit. It also didn't come with any remote so you have to push the buttons for the volume versus a dial knob or remote for easy access.

    All in all I really think I will enjoy this unit. It seems to be a great product and works great right now and I would highly recommend this unit (already did) to friends/family for people who want a nice Double Din receiver with CarPlay.

    Would buy again!

    You won’t find a radio with more features at a better price!! Apple car plybworms great. Radio was easy to wire with correct Metra wireing harness. Fits perfect in the Metra dash kit for my Explorer. Love the microphone that can be installed anywhere and my wife likes the easy to use interface. Fairly responsive touch display. Takes about 2-3 seconds to load a new phone once attached via cord. Calls are clear and the message feature allows you to keep your eyes on the road.     Fantastic unit, I have only just started delving into the everything it can do, but it blows most units at this price out of the water. Love the Apple Car play and how snappy the menus seem. Was able to ground the parking brake (light green wire) to the ground wire (Black) and you are able to have the options like bluetooth etc, while not having the parking brake engaged which seems a little overkill in order to access bluetooth and a few other menus. (Disclaimer: I do not promote watching movies, texting while driving, just feel as an adult you should be responsible ;). I know they sell the parking bypass for around $10 but this option works fine and you don't really need it.

    Also I had a PAC RP4-CH11 Radio Replacement & Steering Wheel Control Interface from my previous install and it worked perfectly with this Nex unit, just make sure you set the toggle button for "7" which is for pioneer. All factory steering wheel controls work great. Would highly recommend this unit and great price.

    This is a really good unit. Does everything I would like a unit to do. I installed it and was surprised since I first turned it on, the touch, feel of the screen. How responsive the unit is, I like the Apple car play feature. I can use my map for navigation, play music through it and answer my call/text hands free. I can ask Siri anything, I can also send/receive WhatsApp messages. On Spotify I can select all my playlist, song, artist on the screen. I can choose all my searches titles/albums as well. I can also hook multiple devices at the same time. I can listen to music on my iphone/iPod and receive calls/messages on another iPhone. I like all the power the unit has, bass boost, and all the audio settings. I can select different backgrounds colors and designs. This unit is a really versatile and could not be happier. I am already saving up for another unit for my 2nd car. Also, one thing I really like is that if I am playing music on the unit and stop at gas station/store and when I get back in the car the music will play instantly where it left of and without me doing anything.
