Amnesiac Attorney
A downloadable game
You woke up without any memory of what happened, nor even who you are. All you have is a legal pad seemingly belonging to a public defender, with most of the pages ripped out. Inside your mind, conflicting aspects of yourself vie for control. Find out who you are and hopefully solve the case.
Amnesiac Attorney is a tabletop role-playing game for 2 players, but can also be played as a solo journaling game.
In a 2-player game, one player is the Player of Consciousness (PC), who makes conscious decisions for the Amnesiac Attorney, as well as acting on the suggestion of the dominant Aspects. The other player takes on the role of Mantle of Cerebrum (MC) and they describe everything the Amnesiac Attorney senses and perceives (i.e. the environment), as well as presenting suggestions from the Aspects. The game is a conversation, a back and forth between the players about the story, with the rules providing structure.
In a solo game, the player takes on both roles of PC and MC.
Requires writing materials, two 6-sided dice (D6) of different colours and an 8-sided die (D8).
Design Inspirations
Thematically, Amnesiac Attorney is inspired by Disco Elysium and the Ace Attorney series.
This is also a game about identity, self-discovery and inner conflicts, based on my personal experience with neurodivergence and gender.
Mechanically, the game draws ideas from open ended investigative TTRPGs like Lovecraftesque, Brindlewood Bay and Apocalypse Keys. The dice mechanics is loosely inspired by that of Ironsworn. Apocalypse World is an influence to this game's design approach.
The current version is made for Minimalist TTRPG Jam 2.
I started writing a scenario for the game, but couldn't finish it before the jam deadline. "Walkman Nirvana" is set in an alternative 80s, a cyberpunk-esque setting without the cyber. I have so many projects that need finishing but I hope I can get back to it.
