"rented nightmare" is a short retro PSX-style indie horror game.
Story
Having a girlfriend who lives very far away is a challenge. After our car breaks down, we have to take a series of buses with many transfers to see her. Since the buses don't run at night, halfway through the trip we rent a cool looking trailer at a trailer park. Now we just need to survive the night...

Massive Spoilers ahead:
I'd like to first say that I hugely respect you for making a game. That stuff is not easy and my criticism is because I really want you to improve.
First, the good:
The atmosphere is great. The exposed nature of a trailer park, as in, no sturdy walls etc, is a great setting I would never have thought about.
Your use of jumpscares is conservative enough to where they genuinely scare me. I got got by both of them.
Visually, the style is good and the models are used well. You even tried to put in details like graffiti and carvings at the campfire which I appreciated. Something else that was good was you including the little blurb about the rocky relationship our MC has. It made him feel a lot more real with not that much exposition.
Something that might seem small but I think is really nice is that you let me adjust my mouse speed in game. A lot of people for some reason skip that.
And the little text blurb during the "fight" was very helpful. I otherwise would have probably missed who it was.
Now for the not so great:
Your use of Zoom shots (The park, the park again, the picture, the fence) is just too much. It became funny to me instead of interesting or anything else. I think you should have kept it to one establishing shot of the park.
Why can I not go behind the trailer? I know this seems minor, but the first instinct of a lot of players is to walk everywhere, especially aound a point of interest like the trailer. This goes double because you had the Stalker walk behind your trailer. I want to investigate! Speaking of investigating, you can enter every trailer by just walking through the door. Put an invisible wall there!
Also pertaining to map design, why on earth is there just a random hole to the center of the earth in the woods. I think if you made it a field of broken glass or something, it would have made more sense.
And after that hole, why on earth do you have a gun in your game when you can't pick it up? I genuinely do not understand why, especially next to the key you need to proceed.
Lastly, after the fight with the Stalker, you need to take his keys. You gotta make this more clear. Maybe have the MC remark on them like "I need to take his Car Keys and get out of here!"
Two small things at the end. The crouch is too low and too slow. It feels like I am belly flopping, not crouching. And the menu does not actually pause the game and it continues registering mouse inputs. This is not too big a deal here, but if you ever make a game where left click could shoot a gun or something, it would be a real problem.
All in all, a lot of flaws but multiple, genuinely good ideas! I really look forward to your next works!

Spoilers! Good setup with the girlfriend living far away and the car being broken and him making an effort to go by bus to stay at a trailerpark because of the anniversary. And him wondering why they were still together when living so far apart was also believable and helped build the character to become a humanbeing i cared about.
What makes the game a "so so" for me is that the character finds a hammer on the ground and immidietly wants to tear down some boards and go off into the woods without any motivation. He could´ve just as easily went back into his trailer and put a chair up against the door so no one could enter.
Also when the character finds a note in his trailer his first thought is to go and tell Joe, but he´s the only person who most likely has the keys to all of the trailers thus making him the prime suspect.
The choice of graphics is outsanding and i really liked the game overall and want to see more in the future.

I LOVED the mechanic for falling asleep and fighting back. I do wish there were more jumpscares overall, but the story was really good! I also appreciated the cutaway showing where certain things were in game to not get lost. If you ever need a Voice actor I'd love to help out with the next one! Cant wait for the next one! (my gameplay of it is the 3rd game in the video)

I made a video on your game if you're interested :)The game got a bit confusing at the end, though that is only because it ramps up in speed very quickly, which leaves some questions open, like why Joe was acting the way he was, or if the player ever got to their destination.
It’s nothing game breaking or anything, but I just wanted to mention it.
Sometimes I did feel like the game lacked audio, but I am not sure if this was just my volume setting or the audio levels of the sounds played
But other than that I enjoyed it, short but sweet, bonus points for the Linux version and the cat image xD

Great game I was lulled into a false sense of security that bit me right in the jump scare muscle! Atmosphere was good the only critique I have is to work on the story telling I felt like I was on rails being forced to do things that made no sense. Maybe that was just me but I still really enjoyed this game. Great job!
