Riftbreakers is a fantasy Role-Playing tabletop game for one or more players. Within it, you take control of a single character and embark on all sorts of adventures, undertaking challenges that will see you traveling the land of Kaethor, which is being besieged by strange magic storms that unleash terrible monsters in their wake.

Riftbreakers provides a complete toolkit for enjoying a wide variety of fantasy playstyles, with a focus on adventurous, high fantasy style of storytelling. It covers character creation, spells and magic, encounters and combat, monsters and treasure, and all the associated game mechanics necessary to recreate the feeling of a Massively Multiplayer Role-Playing Game, but analogically. This means that all the standard elements found in games such as World of Warcraft or The Elder Scrolls Online are here: randomly generated loot, detailed crafting, dungeons, and meaningful character progress. It also provides all the necessary tools, such as oracles and dozens of random tables, to play the game without the need for a Game Master, which means you can easily play the game by yourself, or co-op with friends.

Riftbreakers features:

  • A D100 ruleset, quick to learn and master. Within it you’ll find rules for all sorts of magical abilities and savage melee combat, exploration, crafting, and more.
  • Classless character creation, with progress built around what you focus on learning and what gear you equip. Want to be a deadly warrior, a cunning thief, or a master of the elements? It’s up to you!
  • MMO-like gameplay, with random loot, encounters, difficulty tiers, quality levels, crafting, and more!
  • A strange yet familiar world, full of unique variations of the most common fantasy tropes. Explore the town of Kar Helos and save it from the unrelenting attacks of magical beasts and other threats!
  • Robust solo tools that allow you to play the game without a Game Master, either solo or co-op! If you’re a GM wanting to run a Riftbreakers game, life couldn’t be easier: use the dozens of random encounter, travel and Rift exploration tables to instantly create an adventure for your players on the fly!
  • An expansive bestiary with over 80 unique monsters, each one of them with their own action table to determine how they act in their turn, and their own loot table, to see what your character gains after slaying them!
  • Random quests, dungeons and encounters ensure a limitless replayability.

Hi, is this a good starting point for getting into SOLO-RPGs? I have no experience with TTRPGs at all. :) Cheers

Hello! If you have no experience with TTRPGs it might be a bit too overwhelming, because this is a pretty detailed game that tries to emulate the feeling of an MMORPG. I'd recommend you start with something simpler, like 4 Against Darkness, or my own Salvage & Sorcery!

Hello. Is there any chance you are going to put up any more community copies? I know I'm late for the party but I just found out about your games recently and had bought Ker Nethalas and Salvage & Sorcery, so now my wallet is tight. It's all good if you're not. Thank you and have a nice day!

You can write me and I'll send you a copy, no problem!

Any chance of a sale/discount for Riftbreakers? I just finished playing Disciples of Bone and Shadows and I really enjoyed it but want more, but funds are tight!

I do tend to offer discounts now and then, but generally as part of wider site sales, or special promotions. Keep an eye on the DTRPG page for that sort of thing.

Ok thanks. Will continue on refreshing on a daily basis on DTRPG for a sale.

Riftbreakers exceeded any expectations I had. I was initially wary that a TTRPG could emulate the full feel and breadth of a MMORPG but found that when playing this game succeeds amazingly.

Every aspect of a MMORPG is there. The combat, item creation, questing system, NPC's, and PC's and their progression, and more, are created in a way that there's depth and meaning behind every player action.

Most of all, the game is a blast to play! Either with others or using the detailed Solo GM rules. There's always some quest or task to complete to further your character.

I can see my friends and I playing this for a very long time.

After experiencing how rich and detailed the game was, I was so impressed by the creator's skill in game creation I purchased another of their games, Broken Shores. Again, totally blown away. Another amazing setting, deep and meaningful mechanics, and overall, just an excellent game.

Blackoath is a creator to watch. I'll definitely be purchasing more of their products in the future.

Buy this game! You won't regret it.

Wow, thank you so much for your amazing review! I'm super happy to hear that you like my work. I'll be expanding both Riftbreakers and Broken Shores this year!

Hi!

There's no chance you are going to put up any more community copies by any chance? I'd happily post up a review. It's all good if you're not.

Have a nice day!

I was actually going to do it today, so you're in luck!

Just grabbed one! Thank you so much!

Are there any instructions on searching rifts for items I rolled a "falling Ziggurat" on one of the first areas I generated - would consulting the oracle assist in populating spaces with stuff?

There are no specific rules to populate the different Areas within a Rift, aside from the Area's description and what you find. If you want more granularity you would have to use the oracles, yes. I considered adding that kind of stuff but the book was already enormous so I had to leave it out. At least for now...

Gotcha - that's understandable, I actually ended up just checking the oracle to see if there were items based on the information from the description and used the process of elimination to see what table to roll from. Ended up finding a gem and felt pretty satisfied with the results.

Sounds great, I hope you're enjoying the game so far!

I got this printed, a character created and am continuing reading the book. I’m really impressed so far! This is very well laid out and well written, the art is nice too. I can’t wait to play!

Thank you so much, glad you like it! Let me know if you have any questions!

I do have a question regarding followers and companions, I see we get followers at the Board Quest, where do we find companions? When playing solo it seems you can’t afford to start with followers and will have to quest some first, I’d this correct?

I'd recommend you start with the "A First Step" quest, which gives you a Follower and a Companion right away, and if you can afford to keep paying them, they're yours to keep! In any case, the way of getting a Companion is be rolling a 20 on the Follower Trait table on page 158, so they're pretty rare!
