A sequel to Butterfly Soup, a romantic sports visual novel about gay Asian-American teens playing baseball and falling in love.

Set in the year 2009, the game switches between the perspectives of Diya, Noelle, Akarsha, and Min-seo as they navigate high school life in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Features:

  • 2-4 hours long
  • Memes (unfortunately)

The game is free, but you can support me by buying the digital artbook for $5! It's 15 pages of me rambling + extra sketches, some of which have never been posted anywhere else.

Fan-made ports:

This game explores sensitive topics including homophobia, Asian anti-Black racism, and China/Taiwan relations. Please check out the full content warning list if you think you need it!

(+6)

(+2)

why is she literally me i love this game sm. everytime i replay it I find some more fun details and references  waaaaaa!!

(+4)

I'm so friggin' fond of this game and all the characters. It's my favorite vn. I replay it when I forget how things went and whenever I do, I can't stop laughing my ass off and smiling like I did the first time I played.

At the same time... I'm really glad it explored sobering themes too, with nuance and sensitivity. Honestly, this is the first game I've ever played that articulated stuff like that. It's indescribable to describe how it felt to know like oh hey! Other people experience stuff like that too!

I'm really looking forward to the sequel, and any other games you'll make in the future!!!  Like sign me tf up. Imma play the heck outta that!!!

(+2)

This is literally the best thing I have ever been blessed to see and play. This is a beautiful game and is literally so amazing I can't even describe how much I love this game.

(1 edit) (+3)

If being gay is so epic and cool why didn't god make a being gay part 2-
Holy shit no way

(+2)

这个游戏真的很好玩,想知道Akarsha和Noelle在表白彼此的爱意后是如何相处的,以及他们长大后与每个人相关的更多内容!

(+4)

as a very gay asian with gender and body issues i approve of this game

(+3)

Love the game! The personalities of the characters are all distinct, but somehow still loveable. Akarsha is my fav tho haha! The thing I love the most is the story tho and the way you portray how it is like being the child of immigrant parents.. most of the things the girls went through really hits home as I relate in a way and seeing how they manage made me feel better about myself.

I hope we'll one day find out how Min deals with her abusive father, how Noelle deals with her overbearing parents and how Akarsha deals with her self esteem.  I also loved the side characters, especially Chryssa and Subhaan, though he made a short cameo.

(+4)

Dude, you don't understand how COMFORTING this game is, I'm not Asian at all, I'm African American and I appreciate how the game covers the broad waters of race and racism. I was hooked playing the first one that I even finished it in a day, I NEED more. This game is like my escape, and best believe I'll be replaying it in the near future. Thanks for this masterpiece!

(+9)

you guys should make a 3rd game with how the parents reacted and at least one scene of Akarsha and Noelle officially becoming a couple cause great game but too many unanswered  questions. I dont really feel satisfied with only knowing the future and not the struggle it took to get there. (Great game tho hope you take my suggestion)

(+3)

THIS IS SO GOOD I'M IN LOVE AND I'M QUEER MYSELF AND JUST JUST JUST AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I WANT THE THIRD GAME

(+1)

I just finished playing this game the other day. It was very interesting! I was very interested in the personalities and backgrounds of the girls' parents, which was unclear in the previous game. I was also interested in them at the time I had played the previous game, so I was glad they turned the camera on them. And the best ending I want to tell you about above all! Everyone dances! Yay!

(+1)

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFF SO CUTEEEEEEEEEE

(1 edit) (+4)

I loved these games so much that I finished both of them in less than 5 hours. The dialouge between the characters is so natural and well written, and the fact that Noelle and Akarsha makes my heart swell up with joy is amazing! I doubt that a butterfly soup 3  game would be released, but I would genuinely play 20$ for the game. The art is so amazing and beautiful, everything about this game is amazing. You are an amazing person for creating this and I can't help but crave more of these characters. As a korean lesbian myself, I can't help but appreciate every detail in this perfect game. I hope I see more content from you, whether that be about Butterfly Soup or not

(+3)

the game ever

(+2)

It was so good T_T (crying tears of joy)

I love that it continued some of the plot from the first one. And I loved all the life topics it talked about.

Is it bad that I'd kill for a continuation in a Butterfly soup 3? hehehe ^_^

(+6)

I really hope another game or something else gets made with these characters

(+8)

this game and the one before it are the greatest things since sliced bread. the only downside to playing this game is that no other visual novel can live up to your new found expectations.

(1 edit) (+2)

Just finished the sequel, top tier gay stuff right here, i loved the nigahiga video being thrown in btw, nice memes <3

Also i am glad we found out about grace and sayeeda Sakura and Yuki and their own character development as well

(+2)

this game is amazing i sobbed plenty of times

(+3)

I love, love, LOVE this game and it's prequel. I can't believe how often it's made me laugh out loud, and as an Indian myself it's all too easy to relate to the characters. Along with all of their stupid jokes and weird life lessons, these four girls are now permanently living in my head rent free. The character development you get to see through the games, their own unique speaking styles reflecting in even their internal monologues, Akarsha's delulu era, in all of this you can sense the love that was put behind these games, which have now evolved into my comfort games. In this essay, I will-

soup !

(+1)

i cried

(+5)

I cried with the firts game at the beggining, a few months after realizing I was trans, and I just cried at the end of the second, after a month and a half in HRT. This games always touch the part of me that wants to be better and to be the version of me thats loves living.

(+3)

I don't know what happened, but I feel 100% known by Brianna Lei. It's horrible! (I'm very happy about this)

As a Taiwanese, I was surprised how accurate each photo was. I even had the same language problem, even though I'm a native Taiwanese. I don't speak Taiwanese, which also makes me feel like an outsider when I can't understand my mom's and my grandma's conversations. I'm jealous of Noelle's relatives who live in Taipei but still know Taiwanese lol

Then I was really happy to see girls supporting each other. It made me cry for that.

It's just that I'm so hopeful that when they're adults they'll stop calling each other bro and calling words like son of a bitch... That would really be perfect!! :3

(+3)

love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3
(I also love Noelle :D)

(1 edit) (+1)

Is the bonus art included in buso2 the same as buso1?

edit: i bought both of them anyway lol

(1 edit) (+3)

after playing the first game two nights ago I found this yesterday and stayed up until 2:30 playing it, I started both games at around 10:00 in the evening (on separate evenings of course). This series is amazing, I love the art, the story, the music, really just everything about it. another 10/10, hopefully we get to see more of these characters in the future (and if we do then I hope my sleep schedule will forgive me for staying up until around 2:00 in the morning again).

(+1)

I agree.

Will there be gamepad support?

(+4)

1st game was a masterpiece, as well as the 2nd.

guess which characters got too relatable and realistic again? (everyone. especially akarsha. shes literally me irl) absoloutely loved this, i wish i could play both games for the first time again. 11/10 can't wait for the third game

(1 edit) (+3)

Pretty much everything I could have asked for in a follow-up to the first. I love how it explores a lot of "missing pieces" from the first game and dove much more deeply into a lot of complex themes. Every character is treated with such a high degree of empathy and nuance. I also love how humanized the parents are and that whole aspect is such a brilliant portrayal of how complicated those relationships can be (Diya’s one with her mom hit close to home for me in several ways). Min’s character development is amazing and her positive relationship with Diya makes me melt into a puddle of happy tears (as did the ending, which felt like a beautiful culmination of everything both games stand for). It’s so incredibly difficult to balance being so real and so raucously hilarious but both games pull it off amazingly. Akarsha’s texts never failed to absolutely destroy me lmao Thank-you so much again for making both games! They're both all-timers and I’ll def. be recommending them as much as I can going forward!

(+6)

make a third game pleeeeeeeeeease i beg you

Yeah, I wanna also.

(+4)

I really enjoyed this game and it's predecessor. It's a really beautiful look at queer individuals and the complex ways we are forced to move through the world. These games made me laugh, smile and even cry at points. Some of the parental trauma was especially hard. But I found the characters to be very relatable. Especially Diya, she felt extremely relatable to me multiple times.

I would highly recommend these games!

(+3)

I love how honest and authentic this game feels. There's no "sexy filter" or making everyone look too beautiful. None of their problems are, as they even have a conversation about, misunderstandings that wouldn't happen if people just talked.

Love it <3 Thank you so much for making this sequel and I'm looking forward to your next game.

I agree infinitely.

(+1)

I love it

(+3)

Akarsha made my life easier '-' since Butterfly Soup 1

Yeah.
