Empowering Recruitment: Toyota Material Handling Europe's Success with LinkedIn's AI Features
SUCCESS STORY
In the competitive landscape of talent acquisition, Toyota Material Handling Europe faced the challenge of sourcing and hiring candidates efficiently. The recruitment team, led by Victoria Östryd Söderlind, needed an innovative solution to aid in recruiting across specific competencies and unique geographies. Their journey led them to leverage LinkedIn’s new AI features within LinkedIn Recruiter, which ultimately is now transforming their recruitment process and helping them become more efficient with their talent acquisition efforts.
THE CHALLENGE
Navigating Talent Acquisition Hurdles in a Competitive Landscape
Victoria, a senior leader at Toyota Material Handling Europe, navigates a complex landscape of sourcing and talent acquisition challenges. The team’s primary focus is finding the right employees who not only possess the necessary skills but also provide a culture add to the organization. This task is made more challenging by the unique geographic region that the team is based in, specifically Mjölby, which is a small town in Sweden. This locational factor can limit the pool of available talent for the organization. Additionally, Victoria and the team are tasked with leveraging tools like LinkedIn to reach a broader audience of potential candidates across Europe. With this wide reach, one of the top priorities for the organization is providing a positive experience for all candidates, regardless of whether they secure an offer, to maintain their strong employer brand.
Another significant challenge is the skills gap in the industry, particularly with engineering roles, which are crucial for the company but hard to fill due to a shortage of qualified candidates. Moreover, Victoria is keen on increasing gender diversity within the company, aiming to attract more women to the male-dominated forklift and commercial warehouse industry. These challenges require Victoria to be innovative, strategic, and proactive in her approach to talent acquisition and management: which is where LinkedIn comes in.
THE SOLUTION
Leveraging LinkedIn's AI Tools to Transform Recruitment Efficiency
In Fall 2023, Victoria and the team at Toyota Material Handling Europe embarked on a transformative journey with LinkedIn’s new AI features, revolutionizing their recruitment process. The introduction of AI-Assisted Search and AI-Assisted Messages marked a pivotal shift that enabled them to navigate the complex landscape of talent sourcing and acquisition with unprecedented efficiency and precision.
AI-Assisted Search: This tool became a cornerstone of their strategy, allowing for rapid identification of potential candidates. For Victoria, the time-saving benefits have been a game-changer: “Doing a normal search before AI took upwards of 15 minutes. Now, with AI-Assisted Search, it takes about 30 seconds to get results. The time saved is tremendous. It is so much more convenient and easier doing it this way.” This efficiency not only expedited the sourcing process but also broadened their talent pool, reaching candidates they previously could not reach. AI-Assisted Search’s ability to understand and execute complex queries with ease meant Victoria and the team could pinpoint candidates with specific skills and experiences, tailoring their search to the company’s unique needs.
AI-Assisted Messaging: This feature transformed their communication with candidates. By generating personalized messages that resonated with candidates profiles and experiences, the tool helped to create a more engaging and meaningful first point of contact. “[AI-Assisted Messages] pinpoints the competencies of the people that I contact in a way that I haven’t been able to do because of time. This makes the tool so much more valuable,” says Victoria. She also observed a significant increase of InMail response rates, attributing this to the personalized touch of AI-Assisted Messages. The messages crafted not only saved time, but were also of a higher quality, ensuring candidates felt valued and seen from the very first interaction.
These AI features collectively enhanced the team’s productivity, allowing them to allocate more time for strategic tasks and deepening their engagement and relationships with both candidates and hiring managers. Victoria explained, “that’s what makes the tools so much more valuable. I would say compared to before we had the AI feature, it was more of a job doing the searches. Now it’s so quick and easy to write new instructions to prompt the AI tools and have the tools adjust to your needs.” The tools not only streamlined administrative tasks for the team but also enriched the candidate experience, reinforcing Toyota Material Handling Europe’s reputation as an employer of choice.
