Your repeated mistake in Template, which affects a couple of hundreds of categories

[edit]

Hello Sbb1413. Could you please correct your mistake in Template:Category navigation 2 and then empty the Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls what that mistake caused. Thanks. -- ato (talk) 13:09, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why it is occurring. I'm debugging the template. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribsuploads) 13:11, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you carefully read my contributions note, you should know, that you put duplicated suffix attribute in it. Please double check. -- ato (talk) 13:14, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've fixed it. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribsuploads) 13:14, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ato 01: ✓ Done. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribsuploads) 13:14, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I corrected your one more duplicated argument in {{Category navigation}} here, but I am not sure if it is working properly. See the result for example in Category:Children of Kolkata. -- ato (talk) 19:25, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You won't see the result in English, because the English version of the sidenote has been moved to the sandbox for discussion. Meanwhile, you can switch to বাংলা for seeing the result. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribsuploads) 02:50, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Historical images of xxxx

[edit]

Hello there. Just wanted to know is there any specific reason behind re-categorizing the images in the 'Category:Historical images of ...'? If there's any discussion or consensus on this somewhere, then please do share. Otherwise, it really does not make any sense to merge them with 'Category:History of xxx'. DesiBoy101 (talk) 16:32, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DesiBoy101 Yes, there's a discussion on "historical images" categories at Commons:Categories for discussion/2019/09/Category:Historical images. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribsuploads) 16:40, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for sharing. Regards - DesiBoy101 (talk) 04:27, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly disagree !

[edit]

Hi Sbb1413. I strongly disagree with your changes of the category names "Historical Images of XYZ" to "History of XYZ". The "History of..." categories collect images of historical events of a place. We have a lot of historical images that have nothing to do with the history of a place, they are simply an old image of a house, or a building, or a church of a place, or of works of art of a museum. Just an old image, a historical image. So it is not correct to put these images in the "History..." category. Please stop this senseless move of categories! Thank you. DenghiùComm (talk) 16:05, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DenghiùComm: Please see Commons:Categories for discussion/2019/09/Category:Historical images. I think someone said it there, but putting an image of something with the name "historical" in it makes it sound like that thing has historical significance. While everything intrinsically has to do with the history of an area, not everything is historically important. In fact, most things aren't. So putting random files in a category called "historical images" makes zero sense. All it serves is to make something look categorized when it actually isn't because the category is totally ambiguous. At the end of the end day most "history" categories shouldn't contain files directly in the anyway. They should all be put in sub-categories by date or subject. Putting them in something like "History" or "historical images" is just a lazy, low effort way to not do that. --Adamant1 (talk) 07:08, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects for "historical images" categories

[edit]

Hi. I think we're better off just deleting the categories instead of redirecting them. Otherwise people will just be more prone to reverting the edit, which I really don't feel deal with. Plus redirects show up searches for categories containing "historical images", making it much harder to find ones that need to be dealt with. I'm not really looking to spend most of my time cleaning things up browsing through redirects just so I can find a category that legitimately needs to be deleted. Thanks. Adamant1 (talk) 07:02, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't think much about it. I'll empty the categories instead of redirecting them. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribsuploads) 08:33, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
