PHANTASY SERIES REFERENCE OPUS (PSRO)

This game was made to be run from your desktop; it is recommended you download the executable and use it to play.   You *can* play it in your browser (desktop with keyboard, or mobile with touch... takes a while to load, takes some refreshing), but you may not keep your save file between sessions.  Also, even on your desktop, save files are not shared between playing the game on itch.io, and playing it as an executable.  Also also, if your clear your browser cache, your online saves will be deleted.

(Note this is only the first chapter!  There are about 2 hours of gameplay (3 if you stop and smell the roses, can probably speed run it in like 20 minutes if you enable cheats (yes you can enable cheats)).  The rest of the game is to be released episodically.  Everything will be 100% free.)

Welcome to the world of PSRO, a game with the feel of an early '90s RPG.  Guide Zemi as she progresses through life, and determine how she handles its vicissitudes.

Controls:

• Fullscreen
  • Hit f or escape (keyboard) or triangle/Y/etc. to toggle fullscreen.  If you do this while a menu is open, it may mess up menu text.  Simply close and open the menu to fix it
• Mobile
  • Tapping anywhere on the top half of the screen pauses/unpauses the game.  Otherwise, directions on the left, confirm and cancel/menu on the right
• Keyboard 
  • option 1: wasd for movement, enter for select, shift for cancel/menu, space for pause/unpause
  • option 2: arrow keys for movement, z for select, x for cancel/menu, space for pause/unpause
• Controller
  • d-pad for movement, bottom button for confirm, right button for cancel/menu, start for pause/unpause
• Mouse: nothing

Things I'd like to change:

• Stock sound effects.  I can't make sound effects.
• Mediocre art.  I do what I can, but I'm not an artist.

Goals:

• This is only chapter 0.  I'd like to add several more.
• Add more minigames (currently only have Pechy Dash, the sideways platformer).  Each chapter will introduce ~1 minigame.  Fishing, "monster" breeding, Suikoden-style recruitment, etc.
• Cloud saves.

Known bugs (playing in browser only):

• Switching to/from full screen while a menu is open may cause the text to get messed up.  Just close/reopen the menu, and it should fix itself.
• The game maybe stutter while switching scenes (e.g., initiating combat).  The game was designed to be played as an executable from your desktop.
