From Proto-Celtic *dligeti (compare Old Irish dligid (be entitled to; deserve)), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰlegʰ- (compare Gothic 𐌳𐌿𐌻𐌲𐍃 (dulgs, debt) and Old Church Slavonic длъгъ (dlŭgŭ, debt)).
