Said by Hayami-Allen to be from Indonesian permadani, which is from Javanese ꦥꦼꦂꦩꦢꦤꦶ (permadani), from Malayalam പരവതാനി (paravatāni). Alternatively, directly from Old Javanese paramadani, possibly after passing through Proto-Ternate-Tidore.
