[edit]By surface analysis, lieb + -lich. Diachronically, from Middle High German lieplich, from Proto-Germanic *leubalīkaz. Cognate with Dutch lieflijk, Gothic 𐌻𐌹𐌿𐌱𐌰𐌻𐌴𐌹𐌺𐍃 (liubaleiks).
