Ultimately from Sanskrit सम्प्रत्यय (sampratyaya, firm conviction; perfect trust; confidence; faith; belief) or possibly sam- +‎ *palataya, ultimately from Sanskrit प्रत्यय (pratyaya, belief; trust; faith; confidence).
