We could either:

  1. Continue splitting and separating them, leading to navbox proliferation (we currently have 5, and the thread above hints at 8)
  2. Combine the navboxes, to prevent redundancy, and highlight their interrelation (using {{Navbox with collapsible groups}} which easily lets only-specific-sections be expanded on any given page, example below)

If combined, it could look something like this:

Then on specific pages, a single section forced open eg {{WPessays|notability}} :

It is large, but would prevent some problems... Thoughts? -- Quiddity (talk) 00:30, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work, the template looks great! But the question is, will an editor trying to find essays on civility also be interested in essays on deletion?--SGCM (talk) 00:40, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's both why it's good, and why it's bad. Eg.1. Notability discussions are inherently about Building/Deleting the 'pedia, and the requirement for Civility is a constant. Eg.2. Someone looking for an essay on Deletion, will probably also be thinking of Civility and Notability. Eg.3. But the other directions, the outliers, aren't quite so immediately pertinent. (eg humour essays, wikifauna (if that were added), etc). Hence the asking for more input :) -- Quiddity (talk) 00:48, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can we get this done ...we keep getting inquires about were all the links went from Template:Essays on building Wikipedia - yes they were moved to Template:Essays on notability but know-one knows this. let get this linked together so we dont have to keep replying to were things are.Moxy (talk) 00:30, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Template:Wikipedia essays is ready to go. Updated all content, fixed the documentation. Is anything else needed, or should we start replacing instances, and notifying people to watchlist this new location? –Quiddity (talk) 05:23, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Essay proposal on articles relating to criminal acts

I want to propose an essay on articles relating to criminal acts, and in particular those concerning murder. Following a recent AFD debate and other concerns with "murder of" articles, I feel it is important to establish some clear guidelines on the issue of articles of this nature. Far too many "murder of" articles seem to appear here within a relatively short time of the event's occurrence, and the majority end up in the AFD pile where there is an endless debate about their notability. To this end, I've put together a draft on the subject based on current policy and comments made at the AFD, which could be used as a basis. I would welcome any thoughts on this. New essays

I've recently started writing a few essays to document my experiences on Wikipedia, putting a humorous slant on them, as I genuinely believe that funny things with a serious message behind them are more likely to get read and remembered, using WP:STICK as a kind of starting point. I started writing Wikipedia:Don't come down like a ton of bricks and realised it was similar to Wikipedia:Avoid rancor, so I merged the two together. I did the same think for Wikipedia:It's not the End of the World and Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not that important, and I dare say Wikipedia:Don't throw your toys out of the pram has a "serious" equivalent on here (probably WP:CIVIL or something linked from that).

I've kind of done all of this in isolation, and aside from the odd tweak, most of the essays have just sat there without much feedback on whether the essays are any good or not. I just want to know if I'm going down the right path in doing them. I don't think I'll be creating any more than those three, as there's no other topic that springs to mind, but I'd like to see if I can improve them over time. What do you lot think? --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:06, 27 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Guidance essay

I've come across the term "guidance essay", and a search (WP:guidance....) does produce some results. But I do not see anything that really describes or defines what a guidance essay is. Can anyone assist? Perhaps a redirect towards an appropriate essay, as opposed to guideline, would help. Thanks.--S. Rich (talk) 14:03, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have also wondered what that means. WhatamIdoing (talk) 22:42, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

Wikipedia:WikiProject Essays/Assessment/Links hasn't been updated for almost a year. Does anyone know how to get the bot to run again? WhatamIdoing (talk) 22:43, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
