Uncharacterized protein LOC399693 is a protein in humans that is encoded by the 10 exon gene MGC50722 on chromosome 9q34.[1][2] Initially MGC50722 was amongst 15,000 genes identified through the Mammalian Gene Collection (MGC) Program Team.[3] The gene is shown to be conserved in chimps, rhesus monkeys, dogs, cows, mice, and rats, while also having orthologs in 28 organisms. This 965 amino acid protein is encoded by a 3,596 bp mRNA, has a molecular weight of 104,495 Da, and an isoelectric point of 10.4954.[2][4][5] An interesting feature present in the protein is Domain of Unknown Function 390 (DUF390), which has been found in the rice genome and may be some kind of transposable element.[2][6] Programs have also identified two regions within the amino acid sequence that are coiled-coils (N-coils).[5] Currently, Uncharacterized Protein LOC399693 is shown to be expressed in human brain, lung, and testis tissue.[7][8]
